Structural and microstructural properties of electrodeposited Ni-P coatings

Nano-structured Ni-P coating obtained by electrochemical technique have attracted a great interest due to their good physical and chemical properties, such as high corrosion resistance and good hardness that has been applied to various kinds of industries; such as those of electronics, computers, aircrafts and cars. Ni-P coatings were prepared by the electro- deposition method on copper substrates at various applied potential from electrolyte bath. Scanning   electron   microscopy   and   X-ray   diffraction   were   used   to   characterize   the morphology and structure of the coatings. The surface morphology shows spherical compact particles. Detailed analysis of the X-ray diffraction patterns reveal the formation of α-Ni(P) solid solution with two fcc structures having different lattice parameters and different average crystallite size, in addition to NiP, Ni2P, NiP2 and Ni8P3 phosphides.
